This is necessary so\nthat the DeathRecipient isn\u0027t GC\u0027d early in the case when the\ncaller of linkToDeath() doesn\u0027t retain their own reference to\nthe recipient instance.\n\nHowever, that global reference was never being released in\nassociation with the delivery of the actual binderDied() event.\nIn that case, if the death recipient did not explicitly call\nunlinkToDeath() themselves, the hard global reference was\nmaintained and a hard-reference cycle was perpetuated, crossing\nthe native \u003c-\u003e DVM boundary. This was visible as a gradual\nleakage of DVM-side DeathRecipient and BinderProxy instances.\n\nThe one problematic constraint is that it needs to be valid to\ncall unlinkToDeath() cleanly *after* binderDied() is delivered\nto the given recipient; that requires that we have the hard reference\nlinkage described above. The fix is to replace the hard global\nreference with a weak reference to the DVM-side DeathRecipient\nafter we deliver binderDied() to that recipient. In the case\nwhere the caller has retained their own reference to the instance\n(i.e. they might still call unlinkToDeath() on it later), the\nweak reference stays live and everything works cleanly (and is\nreaped explicitly by unlinkToDeath() as usual).
